Bablake Library Book Club is run by Mrs Ryan and meets in the Library Alcove fortnightly on a Wednesday between 1.30 pm and 2.00 pm and welcomes readers in the 2nd to 4th Years. If you love reading and talking about books, Book Club could be for you!

All the books we read, and the topics discussed, are chosen by Book Club members.  We all read the same book in the two weeks prior to our meet. The reader who has chosen the book in question becomes ‘Discussion Leader’ for that session.

Books read so far in 2011 are: The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson, Blood Sinister by Celia Rees, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie an My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell. We rounded off the Spring Term with a Book Club Quiz on Shiver and a shared lunch. The winning team of Hannah, Jess and Kalika were rewarded with the choice of a book each. Reminders of our meet dates are posted on the Pupils' Notice Board in the Library and in the Daily Bulletin. Join us for lively discussion and debate!

The books we have chosen for the Summer Term are:

Wednesday 4th May - The Forbidden Game by L J Smith - Hannah's choice.

Wednesday 18 May - Leaving Poppy by Kate Cann - Helen's choice.

Wednesday 8 June - The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness - Kalika's choice.

Wednesday 22 June - Kisses for Lula by Samantha Mackintosh - Alice's choice.

Feel free to pop along if any of these books take your fancy!

Member Reviews of Books Read in 2011:

Jessica's Review of Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

I recommend this book because it isn't just your typical werewolf romance novel. Shiver is about a girl named Grace who never really fitted in .... When she was just a child Grace was attacked by wolves, she almost died. When she came out of hospital about a week later her Dad left her locked in his car (which should have killer her but it didn't). Why? You will have to read more to find out the rest ....

Hannah's Review of Blood Sinister by Celia Rees

I recommend this book because it is an awesome book to read! When you are reading you are gripped from the first page to the last. I really enjoyed Blood Sinister because it is such a good storyline.

Helen's Review of Leaving Poppy by Kate Cann

I recommend this book because it was original, inventive and very funny. Leaving Poppy is all about a girl, Poppy, who leaves home and goes to Cornwall to a haunted house. Her sister joins her later to get away from stress at home but her sister being there, unravels secrets about the house and people in the village. Amazing book.

Hannah's Review of Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

I recommend this book because it has a gripping storyline with many shocking twists and is extremely interesting to read. I would definitely recommend Murder on the Orient Express as it such an addictive read.
