Staff News

It has been a time of staff changes in the Library. Mrs Thomas retired at the end of the Spring Term 2010. We wish her a long and happy retirement and thank her for her contribution to the Library and the School over many years. Mrs Ryan is now Assistant Librarian. In addition Mr Park has taken on new responsibilities in the English Department, covering for Mrs Reddish's maternity leave. We wish him all the best in his new role and thank him for all the initiatives he introduced which have ultimately enhanced the provision and resources offered by the Library. Mr Hopkins has been appointed as Director of Studies with responsibility for ICT and the Library. Mrs Needham has taken over as Head Librarian.

New Books

We have so many new books, both Fiction and Non Fiction titles; it's impossible to list them all here!

However we do have copies of all the shortlisted books for the Booktrust Teenage Prize 2010 (winner Unhooking the Moon by Gregory Hughes), The Man Booker Prize 2010 (winner The Finkler Question by Howard Jacobson) and The Costa Book Awards 2010 (various winners as listed below):

• Novelist and former journalist, Maggie O'Farrell, who wins her first major literary prize with her fifth novel, The Hand That First Held Mine.
• Kishwar Desai who takes the First Novel Award for Witness the Night, which explores India's hidden female infanticide and the first book of a series featuring the unconventional female protagonist, Simran Singh.
• Potter and ceramic artist, Edmund de Waal, who collects the Biography Award for his highly-acclaimed memoir, The Hare With Amber Eyes, which the judges called ‘a truly special book'.
• Jo Shapcott who wins the Poetry Award for Of Mutability, her first new work in over a decade in part influenced by her experience of cancer.
• Debut writer and web designer, Jason Wallace, who beats best-selling author Jonathan Stroud to claim the Children's Book Award for Out of Shadows.
